Tailor Your Resume to the Opportunity (Open Position)

You’ve selected that you’re looking at an open position! Let’s go through this scenario step-by-step below to help you tailor your resume.

Scenario

1. Make a copy of your resume and name it “Your Full Name Resume_Organization”

  • Ex. MaiLinh Ho Resume_ClassHook
  • This helps you to keep track of your resume submissions and ensure the company doesn’t receive the wrong resume. We’ve gotten resumes that had a different company’s name 👀 You don’t want to be that person.

2. Identify keywords and important phrases from the description that reveal what ClassHook is looking for, as highlighted below:

3. Modify your education, experience, projects, awards/achievements, and skills sections to keep within 1 page.

  • Include only those that are relevant to the opportunity.
  • Adjust your bullet points to include as many keywords from step #2 as possible. This is especially helpful when application systems automatically select resumes that include certain keywords and recruiters (like us) who control + F to find certain keywords we’re looking for on the candidate’s resume.

This is my revised resume based on the ClassHook’s opportunity!

As you can see, I only included experiences that are relevant to the application. Highlighted are the changes and additions I made based on the keywords.
