Give A Great First Impression In An In-Person Interview

When you’re applying for an in-person opportunity, it is much more likely that your interview will take place at the company’s or organization’s office location.

Here are the crucial tips to help you prepare:

Reminders

  1. Dress to the setting: do research on what the office attire is (ask the recruiter in advance) and dress a nudge above what others might wear to make an impression.
  2. Research on the interviewer(s): Google and search the interviewer(s) on LinkedIn beforehand to learn about their background and recent achievements, in order to craft your questions, start a conversation, and bring up any commonalities.
  3. Be aware of the office: observe and look around their office setting to start “small” conversations, in order to feel and look more confident.
  4. Practice your firm handshake: practice with your teacher and friends an appropriately firm handshake - not flimsy or too firm which can be off-putting.
